As far as mehndi designs are concerned there are basically three that stand out; Arabic mehndi designs, Pakistani and Indian mehndi designs. Traditionally mehndi is an Asian conceptt and cultural used and adopted during the weddings and festive seasons, where young girls and brides design their hands with numerous patterns and designs.

However, recently Hollywood has shown much interest towards the use of temporary henna tattoos and due to this the concept of mehndi or henna application for designing has broadened its horizons.  People get themselves henna tattoos all the time just for fun, for the sake for it or simply because they like it.

Arabic designs are a bit unique and easily distinguishable from the other mehndi designs. Arabic mehndi patterns usually have florals, bails and leaves designs spread evenly along the palm and back of the hand with some spacing in between. This is the difference that Arabic Mehndi designs have over other patterns and designs that it is not heavy and gives a decent yet elegant look.

There are a number of different utensils that can be used to create the designs. Some people prefer to apply the mehndi from within a cone, and it is easy to use much like icing a cake. Another more difficult but accurate method of applying mehndi is to use a matchstick or some small pointed utensil to be able to give precise and detailed designs to the patters.
